010 Editor - Text/Hex Editor Homepage

The section lists all available menu options in the Select menu:

  • Select All - Selects all bytes in the current file.

  • Select Word - If no bytes are selected, the word the caret is over in the editor is selected. This is equivalent to double-clicking on a word in the text editor. If a word is already selected in the editor, this action will select the next word in the file.

  • Select Line - Selects the current line where the caret is located in the editor. If a selection is made, the beginning of the selection is moved to the start of the line it is on and the end of the selection is moved to the end of the line it is on.

  • Select Range - Shows the Select Bar at the bottom of the current editor that can be used to select a set of bytes in a file (see Selecting a Range for more information). If a selection is already made, the Select Bar displays the start address and size of the selection.

  • Expand Selection - Increases the size of the current selection based off the current syntax when editing a text file. When editing a hex file the selection is expanded using the current Binary Template. Note that selection is increased by stepping up the syntax tree or the Binary Template, but expand selection will stop before selecting the whole file.

  • Reverse Selection - If a selection is made and the caret is at the beginning of the selection, the caret is moved to the end of the selection. If the caret is at the end of the selection, it will be moved to the beginning of the selection.

  • Mark Selection Start - Marks the position the caret is on as the start of a selection. If a selection is already made the beginning of the selection is marked instead of the caret position. If an end position has been marked then bytes are select from the start position to the end position.

  • Mark Selection End - Marks the position of the caret as the end of a selection. If a selection is currently active the end of the selection is marked. If the start of the selection has been marked with Mark Selection Start then the bytes are selected from the start mark to the end mark.

  • Column Mode- The Column Mode menu item switches the editor to or from Column Mode and see the separate Column Mode help topic for more information.

  • Move Selection Back - If a selection has been made, this action shifts the selection towards the beginning of the file by the number of bytes that are selected. Use this action when editing hex data to step through struct or variable data this is of a constant size.

  • Move Selection Forward - If bytes are selected in the file, shift the selection ahead in the file by the number of bytes that are selected. Useful for stepping through hex data.
